This student profile is about Pean, a CUSP sponsored student who graduated from college in 2019. Here is Pean graduating from university.
Pean grew up in a rural Cambodian village. She was raised by a single mother in a village 5 hours by bicycle from the town of Siem Reap (where Angkor Wat is).
During the rainy season she had to move to a more remote location to work in the fields. After 9th grade, because the family was so poor, she had to drop out of school and work for 2 years.
High School
In 2011 Pean joined the CUSP dorm and started attending 10th grade.
College
Pean went first to Don Bosco Vocational for 2 years and later attended and graduated from the Royal University of Phnom Penh.
Post College
Pean now works as a procurement officer for an NGO in Phnom Penh.
Pean provides mentoring and guidance to these new CUSP students in Phnom Penh who have just completed high school in Kampong Thom.
She is extending the reach of CUSP to the very poor in Cambodia. On the weekends she teaches English on Zoom to Kavet students on the border to Laos. The average Kavet life expectancy is 39-43 years.
